Politics - meaning changed

The other day I was watching comedy Circus on TV when 2 people enacted a conversation between 2 politicians Pervez Musharraf and Sonia Gandhi. It made me think that the word politics/politician used to mean the study of government of states and other political units or the profession devoted to governing and to political affairs or as a process by which groups of people make decisions as to who gets what, when, why, how, etc.

Now the same word is so commonly used in corporate world for people who strive to be in power and authority even if it means causing harm to others. And it does not appear just among the top management but also trickles down to the lowers levels. We so commonly hear that so and so person/group is playing politics. What I am trying to say here is that healthy social relationships or a simple performance related achievements have taken a back seat in the corporates. Where is the world going?What is happening to people?Has money and power become so important? What do you do with it once you achieve it?

These are the questions that always linger on my mind.
